چکیده
Acquired Hypothyroidism in a Newborn Treated with Amiodarone in the First Week of Life amiodarone after a week of life. Fetal tachycardia was diagnosed at 24th week of gestation and the mother was treated with digoxin until cesarean section at 34th week. Junctional ectopic tachycardia was confirmed by an electrocardiogram at birth, and amiodarone infusion was administered to the infant from the first day of life. Thyroid function was normal in sample collected for universal screening on the third day. However, on the 14th day thyrotropin increased to 109 mU/L, with low free thyroxine levels (0.83 ng/dL). We started levothyroxine (10 μg/kg/ day). The thyroid imaging was normal, antithyroglobulin and antiperoxidase antibodies were negative, and urinary iodine was very high (969 μg/L). Levothyroxine The amiodarone molecule contains iodine. An overload of this element (“Wolff-Chaikoff” effect) can cause hypothyroidism at all ages; newborn infants are especially susceptible [1].

Thyroid function tests were within normal limits. Thyroid swellinggradually reduced in size during the 1st week of life. All the cases of congenital goiter t...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) on Amiodarone-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis in Rat
Treatment with amiodarone, a commonly prescribed antidysrhythmic agent, is associated with pulmonary fibrosis (PF) which is a commonly progressive and untreatable dieases. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a phenolic antioxidant and an active anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant component of propolis (bee glue; a resinous hive product collected by honey bees). In th...
متن کاملHuman Placental Extract Ameliorates Structural Lung Changes Iinduced by Amiodarone in Rats
Amiodarone is used in treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Therapeutic use of amiodarone is limited by its side effects, including pulmonary toxicity. Human Placenta Extract (HPE) contains a variety of bio-active substances. Thus, the present study aimed to quantitatively evaluate the protective effects of HPE on the structural lung changes induced by amiodarone using stereological methods. Spragu...

Purpose: This research has been carried out to study the morphological and ultrastructural changes of rabbit heart ganglionic neurons and nerve fibers after treatment with Amiodarone. Materials and Methods: 21 rabbits were divided into control and two experimental groups. The first experimental group for one week and the second experimental group for two weeks were injected intraperitoneally 8...
